Three Years of Nanodropper: Eyedrop Bottle Adaptors Available In Every State, 2,000+ Clinic Locations
Nanodropper Adaptor — an eyedrop bottle adaptor that reduces eyedrop waste and significantly decreases financial barriers to care for patients — is now available at eyecare locations in every state, Washington D.C., Puerto Rico, the U.S. Virgin Islands, and around the world through the company’s numerous global nonprofit partnerships.
When Nanodropper launched its first-of-its-kind eyedrop bottle adaptor in mid-2020, at the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, there was uncertainty about how quickly the company would gain traction. That uncertainty has faded away as the team celebrates three years of the Nanodropper Adaptor on the market.
The Nanodropper Adaptor is the first and only adaptor for eyedrop bottles that reduces eyedrop volume to just what the eye can absorb, significantly reducing medication waste and financial barriers for patients and clinics. It’s now available in more than 2,200 clinic locations spanning all 50 states, Washington D.C., Puerto Rico, the U.S. Virgin Islands, and low resource settings in the U.S. and multiple continents working with Nanodropper’s nonprofit global health partnership program, Give the Gift of Vision.
“We are so grateful to our clinic partners across the country for supporting us in this early stage of our company,” said Nanodropper CEO Allisa Song. “The microvolume delivery revolution is only just getting started.”
The Nanodropper team has pushed hard to promote the product nationwide in 2023, attending more than 50 conferences to develop collaborations with key opinion leaders in the optometry and ophthalmology sectors. Word of the technology’s impact on patient care and savings for clinics, of which many are owned by the doctors themselves, is spreading fast. The team has also secured notable partnerships in the last year including Mayo Clinic, Southern College of Optometry, and Keplr Vision.
“This is really important for anyone who uses eyedrops on a regular basis. Especially someone with glaucoma, whose medications can get quite expensive,” says optometrist Dr. Joseph Allen, known as Doctor Eye Health on his YouTube channel with nearly 1 million subscribers.
“Patients are so thankful that they can make their drops last as long as needed when they factor in the waste that sometimes occurs instilling their eyedrops. This has been a money saver for them,” says ophthalmologist Dr. Oluwatosin Smith, glaucoma specialist at Glaucoma Associates of Texas.
“Nanodropper allows us to keep patients on branded glaucoma eyedrops for longer,” says optometrist Dr. Eric Schmidt, president of the Optometric Glaucoma Society. “The difference between my patients using their drops every day versus running out at 22 days — and not being able to refill until 30 days due to their insurance policy — makes a world of difference in their care. The Nanodropper Adaptor takes them well past that 30-day mark.”
“The device works great on exam drops like proparacaine. Using the Nanodropper will definitely reduce waste and excess cost for the more expensive drops we instill frequently in the office,” says optometrist Dr. Mark Roark.
Hundreds of patients have also shared their satisfaction with Nanodropper improving their eyedrop experience.
“Before using Nanodropper I got two to three weeks out of a bottle (one month supply), now I get up to 3 months using Nanodropper,” said one patient. “Highly recommend this. Will save you a lot of money.”
“It has extended my bottle of Azopt by about 4 times, which is an enormous savings,” says another user. “It also seems to cause less discomfort. The medications are working just as effectively with the smaller drops.”
The Nanodropper Adaptor and its cofounders have been recognized by Forbes 30 Under 30, Worth Magazine’s Worthy 100 List, and Fast Company’s World Changing Ideas Award.
